July 16th

Sacramento, Berkeley

We’re excited to return to Sacramento this weekend, where we’ll be playing with two excellent acts: Desario (featuring members of California Oranges), and Boy Scouts (who we played with awhile back in Stockton), both of which write some really lovely songs. John from Desario designed this excellent, mid-century themed poster for the event. The Sacramento News & Review featured the show in this week’s issue, and had this to say about The Shants:

“Using a small cache of simple instruments—guitar, harmonica, spare drums, pedal steel, et al.—the Shants take a simple approach to mining complicated emotions. On the band’s Russian River Songs EP, tracks such as “You Win” …merge gothic Southern folk with classic rock and slowcore pop to create a sound that’s equal parts relationship ennui, the picking of old wounds and California dreamin’.” - Rachel Leibrock

Next week is a busy one, as we’ll be stopping by the BAMM.tv studios for a live taping (which you can stream on Thursday July 22 at 8pm Pacific). Then next Saturday we’re hitting Berkeley (Adam’s neighborhood) to play at the Speakeasy Theater series at the Subterranean Arthouse. Odawas (Jagjaguwar Records) and Quinn will join us. Details over here.

About to put in an order for our first t-shirts, which is always exciting. Hopefully they’ll be in before we hit the road on Aug 19th!
